Sometimes when you’re working too many hours at work it gets harder and harder for you to wake up in the morning. It’s not necessarily that you’re lazy, but eventually it is possible for your mind to block out that your alarm is going off. This alarm clock has so many different ways to get you to rise in the morning that you’d be covered no matter how tired you are. If you’ve noticed one way doesn’t work with the alarm, you can add a function to your morning routine. It is also entirely possible for you to set it up so that the alarm does all of this silently.

One way is to turn on the bright LED lamp, it flashes when it’s time for you to get up in the morning. You can also set the volume and a low or high frequency to the tone that wakes you up. Then there is also the included bedshaker that can go between mattresses or just under your pillow. If that doesn’t work the alarm can make your phone ring too. MasterCard is joining the “iPhone revolution” with its own dedicated application. The so called MasterCard ATM Hunter provides iPhone and iPod Touch users with a simple yet very useful tool, enabling them to locate the nearest ATM no matter where in the world they are.

Naturally, iPhone’s location awareness is used (cellular triangulation if you’re on the original, non-GPS equipped iPhone) to help users along the way. Moreover, users can customize their hunt based on their unique banking needs - i.e. focusing their search to a specific bank, wheelchair accessible ATMs, drive-throughs. Finally, the application also features some helpful ATM safety tips…

Today the Bluetooth SIG^(INFO) announced the new Bluetooth 3.0 standard that can make use of 802.11 wireless LAN technologies to add a new "High Speed" mode to Bluetooth devices. New Bluetooth 3.0 chipsets were announced earlier today, and we should expect to see initial products using the new system by the end of the year.

The idea behind Bluetooth 3.0 and the new optional "High Speed" spec is to allow hardware manufacturers to take advantage of the increasingly common situation where a mobile device contains both Bluetooth and 802.11b/g wireless LAN support, providing throughput as high as 24Mbps in 802.11g devices. When the need for transferring large amounts of data pops up, 802.11 capable Bluetooth 3.0 + HS devices will be able to use high-speed WLAN connectivity to transfer files more quickly, and with less power draw, than if they were to use existing Bluetooth EDR^(INFO) technologies. Bluetooth 3.0 handles the creation of the ad-hoc 802.11 connections between devices, and the spec allows for both Bluetooth based and traditional 802.11/WiFi connections to run at the same time.

The Bluetooth SIG expects to see the new technology used in devices like digital cameras, camcorders, TVs, and, of course, cell phones. The new Bluetooth 3.0 spec also features some general enhancements that will improve power management and connection reliability in all Bluetooth devices.

While it is possible for existing devices that have 802.11 and Bluetooth 2 + EDR support to be upgraded to the new Bluetooth 3.0 spec, Bluetooth SIG executive director Mike Foley thought that would be unlikely to happen for the vast majority of devices. Foley also mentioned that a new Bluetooth "Low Energy" specification is set to be rolled out by the end of the year. The new low energy spec is designed for devices like watches and pacemakers, which must rely on very small batteries to function.

Hualu has been showing off its latest Mobile Internet Device known as the UCG501 at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair. This new MID features a 5-inch touchscreen display with 800 x 480 resolution, a high-performance integrated graphics card and Windows OS.

It also features a built in mini-optical mouse, Bluetooth 2.0, CDMA communication, GPS system, web TV, web radio and a 4700mAh Polymer lithium-ion battery. Nothing on pricing and availability yet, but we are asking ourselves why would someone buy this over an iPhone?

We all take our sight for granted and tend to forget how fortunate we are that we can experience an entire visual existence that those with no sight will never know. For the blind, content on the web is like a giant gaping void that they have no way of navigating. Monitors are useless for conveying info to the blind. They basically live in a different world just parallel to our own. One that we will never know.
